T-Zone Vibration Machine

thWhat is Whole Body Vibration?

“Whole-Body Vibration (WBV) training was developed by Russian scientist Vladimir Nazarov to prevent astronauts muscles and bones wasting when they were in space… Whole body vibration is implemented through the use of a vibrating platform on which exercises can be performed. The vibrations generated by the plate underneath the platform are transmitted to the person standing, sitting or lying on the machine. The intensity and the direction of these vibrations are essential for their effect. Different vibration platforms have different vibration characteristics. Not all platforms perform in the same manner, and that is why the results of using them are different.”

There are two types of technology available: the “piston” up and down linear vibrational equipment and the side-alternating, oscillating vibration. The difference is substantial. While the side-alternating technology used in the VT-15 and VT-20 Whole Body Vibration (WBV) machine has surprising and astonishing results for health, exercise and body toning, there are questions raised about the advisability of using equipment based on piston style technology.

Piston vibration and the resulting “G” force may have an undesirable long term impact. Anyone who has used a jack hammer, driven a truck or other heavy operating machinery with the up and down, linear piston movement and vibration knows the back problems that can develop and various physical stresses to other areas precipitating repetitive stress injury syndromes (carpal tunnel). Side-alternating, oscillation vibrates at the correct megahertz from a medical and body toning standpoint using a lift mechanism along with vibration.

According to Sunny Wang, Kinesiology Specialist, “Side-alternating oscillation offers the most potential benefit due to its unique vibrational movement, which is similar to walking. While most vibrational exercisers use an up and down piston-type movement, the T-ZONE VT-15 and VT-20 uses the safer and more beneficial type of oscillation. These machines utilizes a continuously variable movement in two directions: side to side, and up and down. It is this multi-rotational, continuously variable, oscillating movement that stimulates the physiological primal reflex and provides the most benefit from vibrational platform exercise, while simultaneously lessening any joint impact.” (Read more of Sunny’s article)

How does the T-Zone Whole Body Exerciser do what it does?
When you stand on T-ZONE’s oscillating vibration training platform, vertical vibrations are produced with a side-alternating rocking movement similar to walking or balancing on a balance board. Our body reacts to this natural stimulus with an involuntary reflex muscle contraction. Depending on the speed, muscles will react up to 23 times per second (approximately 11-12 contractions and 11-12 relaxations), and as the acceleration forces increase, your body will feel as though it “weighs” more. This clever technology means you can work against a far greater influence or “load” of gravity in every movement you perform.

The side to side, up and down oscillating system used by the T-ZONE Whole Body Vibration Machine generates a slightly greater “G” force and systematic involuntary muscle contraction. This stimulates receptors in the Achilles tendon called golgi bodies that stimulate nerve receptors which track up to the cerebellum (the part of the brain that is responsible for balance). This pleasant rocking and rolling action causes the brain to tell the muscles of your body to actively contract to maintain its equilibrium, thus creating a therapeutic and muscle toning workout. Curiously, there is a correlation between some effects experienced on the T-Zone Machines and those experienced on a “balance board”.

Have you ever heard of a balance board (or a Bosu ball)? It is often used as part of rehabilitative therapy for stroke patients, brain injured patients, and children with ADD, as well as with various sports disciplines to increase balance, focus, concentration, and self-confidence. The balance board is a simple wooden platform with a pivot underneath. By attempting to maintain balance on the board, a whole range of neurological effects are produced over time. These effects can be related to physical, mental, and emotional health, and well-being.

Doing balance board activities (similar to using the T-ZONE VT-15 and VT-20) trains the whole sensory system by working with the proprioceptive (how we sense the position, location, and orientation of our body to our surroundings) and the vestibular (controls the sense of movement and balance) systems. When stimulated, these key threads in the neurological web of our brain are the mechanism which activates our entire brain and opens up our sensory channels for more efficient living and learning. Read more about the physical, mental, and emotional benefits of the balance board.
